Goddess - Discovery (2012)

Image
Goddess is a one-man band from Bucharest, Romania. Ervin Usein, the man behind this project (from the instruments to the artwork) creates an absolutely stunning musical experience. A journey filled with spaced out stoner jams & proggy vibes. Amongs the 5 tracks this album has to offer, "Astral Highway" & "Blood and Fire" became instant favorites for 2012. This album is indeed, one hell of a discovery. I just love the ballsy prog-psychedelic sound on this thing. Usein creates this laid-back, intergalactic atmosphere while staying heavy on the riffs & groove. Almost like Karma To Burn teamed up with Farflung (how crazy that may sound). This is one tasty instrumental album that comes highly recommended... goddessrocks.bandcamp.com MP3@320Kbps Download or Download 2

Uzala - Uzala (2012)

Image
Formed in the summer of 2009, this young band from Portland, Oregon brings us an interesting form of dark, psychedelic doom. Uzala creates a thick wall of haunting, eerie & highly atmospheric sludge/ doom. Following in the footsteps of Cough, Windhand, Acid King & Jex Toth. A highly immersive and interesting take on the genre, filled with various influences. Get this! Much like Jex Thoth, Witch Mountain, Sabbath Assembly or Windhand, Uzala's doom takes advantage of soaring and sorrowful female vocals to reach back to doom metal's roots in the blues. While guitarist/vocalist Darcy Nutt's haunting vocals and melodicism are compelling enough to keep Uzala's new-vintage sound interesting, the band throws a wrench into the preceedings by counter-balancing those vocals with the death-grunts of guitarist Chad Remains. Simple yet well-executed songwriting and riffs keep the band's debut in a fresh Sabbath-ian light, never retreading well-travelled paths or falling i

Devil - Time To Repent (2011)

Image
Hailing from Norway, "Devil" plays dusty, vintage heavy/ doom metal, following in the footsteps of Saint Vitus, Pentagram, Witchfinder General,... This is a fresh band playing the old school vibes like we love 'em. Filled with driving riffs, cheesy lyrics, catchy hooks & a warm 70's sound. What's not to love? Mississipi Bones - Tracks (2012)

Image
Another oldie here at Stonerobixxx, Ohio's Mississippi Bones. "With the release of their follow up, “Tracks,” Mississippi Bones once again take you on a trip you won’t soon forget. Armed with a barrel full of massive riffs and sharp tongued lyrics, the Bones will soak your soul with rock n roll and leave you reminded why rock is right".   "Tracks" is a filthy, groovy piece of hard hitting blues rock. Think Fireball Ministry, The Company Band, Five Horse Johnson, Down,... but with a more direct, accessible sound. Mississipi Bones is a band that gives you exactly what you would expect, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. The perfect soundtrack for a good ol' Southern bar brawl. This thing rocks, the dirty heavy kinda way. Check it out, support these guys, leave a shout . mississippibones.bandcamp.com Physical needs: CD Baby / Amazon MP3@320Kbps Download or Download 2

Dopefight - Gurt Split (2012)

Image
Brighton's Dopefight was amongst my favorite newcomers back in 2010 . I patiently waited to inject my subwoofer once again with those angry weedian grooves, mountainous riffs & sludgy breakdowns. Dopefight returns together with London's Gurt on this mighty split, featuring 2 brand new tracks from each band. I'm not really familiar with Gurt, but after hearing "Dudes with Beards with Cats" I was kinda sold to their swinging crusty, old school sludge sound (+1 for the hilarious promo clip). Check out more material from these guys on the Bandcamp link below, definitely a band to look into. As expected, Dopefight hits it like a motherfucker on this split. "Stonk" immediatly grabs you & stuffs a truckload of beefy riffs in your auditory canal. The second track "Green Solace" is kinda short but does it's job (I'm talking about 1:33), fair enough. In a nutshell, this sweet 7'' is definatly worth it for anyone that's into a

Gandhi's Gunn - The Longer The Beard The Harder The Sound (2012)

Image
One of the earlier band request when this blog was still young. Gandhi's Gunn is an Italian four-piece, and they just released their second full-length; "The Longer The Beard The Harder The Sound". This is heavy straightforward stoner/ hard rock with an excessive amount of hair on it's back. Thick riffs, furious grooves, heavy vocals & some unexpected songwriting/ concepts ('flood' is a fine example). Not the best or most original sounds out there, but a solid album by a band that brings us back to the essence of heavy rock music. For fans of Mustasch, Nightstalker & Planet Of Zeus! Snail - Terminus (2012)

Image
California's Snail formed in '92, one of those small but legendary underground bands in the early stoner/ doom scene. You should all remember their comeback album "Blood" (released after a hiatus of 15 years). The opener on that thing has some of the most utterly heavy and memorable riffs known to man. A personal favorite. Terminus is Snail's third full-length, a monster that came outta nowhere. Found it on coincidence through Bandcamp, streamed it, loved it. Terminus is filled with ten ton riffs, originality, a good 70's vibe & hints of psychedelica. A heavy, stoned piece of sonic bliss. Great to see these guys returning through the current music platforms. Longtime fans & newcomers alike should definitely c heck out this album! Tank86/ Sardonis Giveaway! - Winners

Image
More than 100 answers from all over the world, filled with outstanding poetry, straightforwardness and random hilarity. I absolutely love you guys for all these wonderful contributions. I made a small group of answers I enjoyed the most & randomly selected 3 winners; Why would you want to have the new Tank86/ Sardonis split? "To drown out the incessant samba music that plays every day in my neighborhood." -Dan, San Francisco "I would love the split for my cousin who currently resides in China. He was the one who introduced me to stoner rock in the first place some years ago through a selfmade compilation of Kyuss, Qotsa, Los Natas, Fu manchu, Dozer and the likes. But like I said he now lives in China, and so the music availability is slighty more..uhm..awkward, with youtube and  blogspot and so on not being available over there. However I had made a disc for him this christmas featuring select samples from, amongst other stuff, a lot of goodies from stone

Major Kong - Doom For The Black Sun (2012)

Image
Poland's Major Kong, an underground favorite back in 2011 . The band has returned from it's muddy swamps to release "Doom For The Black Sun". 45 lingering minutes filled with psychedelic doom jams. The sound on this thing is raw, heavy & really "pure", it's like these guys are playing a live jam session right in front of you. Major Kong brings their style in the most natural form possible & succeeds with this album. Think of it as Sleep teaming up with Tia Carrera, a dark doomy sound played in a funky, rockin' psychedelic way. Absolutely great tunes, highly recommended! majorkong.bandcamp.com Get yourself a cool shirt: majorkong.bigcartel.com MP3@320Kbps Download or Download 2
