Quick post to promote this unique (& busy!) band from Saint-Petersburg. The Grand Astoria have some new material out & are going on a world tour. 'Caesar Enters The Palace Of Doom' is their latest 7'', to be released next month. Again, this is a crazy combination of psychedelic, stoner, space, alternative, whatever you call it rock. Strange, original & highly addictive! Be sure to catch these guys out at their Omnipresence Tour (myspace for dates). '7 inch vinyl is available via Setalight Records or Rough Trade Distribution or during summer-autumn 2011 tour of The Grand Astoria.' thegrandastoria.bandcamp.com myspace.com/thegrandastoria <a href="http://thegrandastoria.bandcamp.com/album/caesar-enters-the-palace-of-doom"&a...
Kamni - A.T.O.M. (2011)

More quality psyched out stoner/ doom from the masters of Moscow. Kamni/ Камни had to be one of my favorite discoveries from last year, hence the rightful place in my personal top 10 . These guys deliver the hazy riffs like we want it & more. A.T.O.M. or 'Atmospheric Tribal Oriental Meditation' is yet another solid offering by this upcoming band. A combination of dirty, fuzzed out riffage & trippy oriental vibes. It's great to see some experimentation & evolution at this stage. Some heavy riffs had to make place for a more psychedelic approach, but it's well-executed. A.T.O.M. is a rather bright addition to Kamni's previous release and I honestly can't wait to see the pieces come together on an eventual full-length album... Again, highly recommended. 'Awooga started in late 2008 jamming away in a cold little decrepit practice room in Sheffield city centre across from a 86 year old Master Steel Forger who once made knives for Bill Clinton and Elvis Presley. No lie, he showed us the photos. Our sound is heavy, melodic and atmospheric. It's a bit proggy and we have been told " you guys sound like a star exploding". Have a listen. We have played with some really good bands in the past and still do now such as Saviours, Kruger, Downslide, and many more that we have been privileged to share bills with in the past.' - myspace.com/awoogalol Refreshing grooves from Sheffield, UK. Awooga brings forth a rather eerie mix of alternative prog & post-metal. I would recommend this album to anyone who is looking for a more versatile and clean sound in the genre. V Column is a highly accessible record and I'm sure alot of listeners will appreciate the progressive spaced-out sound on here. Check it out. Love it, ...

Dickkicker from Tallahassee, Florida. Now that's a bandname, actually this album is like a kick in the dick; Fast, powerful & highly effective. Their sound could be compared to bands like Black Tusk & Howl. A more uptempo, crossover style of sludge/ doom & stoner metal. Somniloquent is a straight-forward but highly enjoyable listen. Excellent 70's fueled stoner/ doom from Ukraine. Somewhere between the occult psychedelic vibes of Black Sabbath & the stoned, monumental riffs of Sleep. I really loved ' First Communion ', their previous effort. This EP is a good, solid progression. Evil & tasty! myspace.com/stonedjesusmusic stonedjesus.bandcamp.com Get their stuff through All That Is Heavy / Solitude Productions . MP3@320Kbps Download or Download 2

-All new uploads are now going through filesonic & wupload (hotfile recently deleted my account including all uploads, DMCA is a bitch..). Most files are still active on MU & RS, so please don't spam the c-box with 'reupload' requests. I'll try to reupload most stuff in the upcoming weeks. -I'm still getting tons of band requests, I decided to focus myself more on these. There are alot of great contributions from independent artists who'd like to share their work, visions, passion,.. through this blog. It's always an honor to give these bands some exposure & watch them evolve through time. That doesn't mean I'm leaving the more well known tunes in the genre, I'm sharing these in moderation from now on. So that's about it. There won't be alot of posts in the upcoming days, since I'll be busy reuploading & sorting out requests as usual. Thanks again to all readers & artists, light one up & stay tuned! Hails, Rif...

'Cultura Tres' from Maracay, Venezuela. These guys play some furious South American sludge/ doom metal. This is their latest offering, 'El Mal del Bien'. A really dynamic, non-linear trip in the genre. Somewhere between the Viaje A 800 & Horn Of The Rhino ? culturatres.bandcamp.com myspace.com/culturatres MP3@320Kbps Download or Download 2

Lots of request coming from Bandcamp in the last month. I highly recommend anyone to check out this magical place to satisfy ears & mind. Posting some enjoyable ones for the weekend, starting with 'The Heavy Eyes' from Memphis, Tennessee. This is their debut EP from last year. Bluesy 70's approved grooves! 'This is a very ROUGH ep that was recoded on a TASCAM recorder in a non soundproofed room. It was recoded track by track with no metronome and can be off-time at times. The album is meant to give the listener an idea of our sound. Better recordings will be released in the near future, until then enjoy the rough ep. Could we possibly emphasize rough any further?' theheavyeyesmemphis.bandcamp.com myspace.com/theheavyeyes MP3@320Kbps Download or Download 2

Stoned out sludge metal from Michigan. Mountain Goat should be a promising band in the genre, this EP proves it like no other. Dirty, raw & fuzzed out with some solid Sleep worshipping riffage. To compare it with some of the 'bigger' bands: Think Weedeater, Electric Wizard, Bongzilla,.. Dirty, loud & stoned as fuck. myspace.com/mountaingoatband 7'' EP released on Hydro-Phonic Records . Colosseum - Chapter 3: Parasomnia (2011)

'This is the final album from Finnish funeral doom masters Colosseum after the tragic the death of frontman Juhani Palomäki on Saturday May 15th 2010, he was only 32 years old. If you are any kind of fan of the funeral doom style, you would be aware of Colosseum by now. This album marks the end to a funeral doom trilogy of recordings that are among the most unique doom albums ever released. The first two albums, 'Chapter 1: Delirium' and 'Chapter 2: Numquam' both received critical acclaim from most people but some never really got it. The most common negative comment you read about 'Colosseum' is that they never really progressed and is it true the first two albums were copies of each other. This third album is a bit different but still carries on where the last album left off - but when you have such a colossal sound like this, it is hard to fault the power and quality this band possesses. -Full review at Doommantia.com More dark, enthralling goods from Fi...
Tyranny - Tides Of Awakening (2005)

'While the previous work of Tyranny called ‘Bleak Vistae’ was a release of proper quality with a low profile, this time around they definitely opt for a more distinct own sound. I must say that they succeed in doing so. The blunt, crushing and ultra-depressive funeral doom is slow, monolithic and as dark as the deepest shafts of Satan’s soul. Exactly how it must be done. Riffs are played for consecutive minutes, keyboards in the background provide listening references and the grunts are comfortably deep (but completely indecipherable). So it comes as no surprise that this isn’t a doomy snack but more of an eight-course diner. All this however is of no concern when the listener fails to keep his attention due to lack of tension often seen in funeral doom releases, fortunately ‘Tides Of Awakening’ doesn’t suffer from this mistake. To get the idea of how it actually sounds, think of Evoken meets Esoteric. One of the better, extreme doom metal releases this year I reckon....
Oruga - Oruga (2011)

Last year I did a track review on ' Blitzkrieg Lady ', I was impressed by the destroying mix of energetic stoner/sludge that is Oruga, a fresh band from France. Think of it as Eyehategod meets Black Tusk & the more recent Demonic Death Judge . Oruga returns in 2011 with their first EP. Overall this is a more slowed down & focused attempt. Blitzkrieg lady was a hard, fun track. But I think this EP offers alot more consistency towards the genre, it's not too groundbreaking but still quite ambitious in it's loud & obscure presentation. A good listen, definitely worth checking out! myspace.com/oruga666 MP3@320Kbps Download or Download 2

Hailing from Groningen, the Netherlands. These guys play some rough stoner/doom drenched in a pool of unholy hatred & sludge. Think Goatsnake, Eyehategod & High On Fire. Downtuned, angry and heavy as fuck. Add some rock 'n roll & there you have it. This band takes no prisoners & will melt your face off. Has to be one of the most impressive debut albums I heard this year. Get this now and play it damn loud!
