Aleph Null is a fresh stoner/ sludge three-piece from Germany. These guys combine pounding, monolithic riffs with vocals reminiscent to Southern & modern metal. A weird but daring combination that's hit & miss. The overall sound on this EP remains absolutely massive, one of the main reasons to pay attention to this beast. Sweden's "Odyssey" is quite hard to describe, their approach is straightforward while staying experimental in the rocks-like-hell department. Imagine Nick Oliveri's Mondo Generator with a more raw, sludgier & overall heavier sound, in the likes of early Melvins maybe. Here's a band that's definitely not afraid to break barriers & try something else for a change. "Abysmal Despair" is Odyssey's debut full-length released through Transubstans Records . One of the more memorable tracks on this thing has to be " Wicked Witch " (known from the 7'' split with the revamped Black Pyramid), a rifftastic sludgy stoner rock anthem. Others are somewhat hit & miss, but there's plenty to explore. Love it or hate it, this is a pounding lesson in stoner, sludge, noise & garage rock with some really rough edges. I'm excited to bring you guys another 'big' review here at Stonerobixxx. Sahara Surfers, one of the more recent bands out there in the magical world that is stoner rock brings us 'Sonar Pilot'. To dive right in; The intro grabs you immediately & takes the listener on a deadly, yet colourful trip of fuzz, psychedelic & stoner rock. Austria's Sahara Surfers are back with a vengeance: heavier riffs, dreamy energetic vocals, a more diverse take on the songwriting,.. All in a rock solid production. I think this is one of those underground bands that feels instantly 'fresh'. taking different influences & blending them in their own original form. With Sonar Pilot this formula expands even more. The vocals are more balanced this time & give the sound a whole new interesting dimension, or: how heavy fuzzed out riffs go hand in hand with tough but clean female vocals (take the track 'Ganjalf' as an example). Fierce, crusty stoner/ doom from Galway, Ireland. Expect heavy, bludgeoning riffs with evil, razorsharp vocals in a filthy production. Another highly anticipated album around here. 'Raised By Wolves', Serpentcults latest addition in the abyss of dark & distinct doom. A short history lesson for all the newcomers; 'Serpentcult' originally started back in '98 as 'Thee Plague Of Gentlemen'. TPOG released their latest work (& only full-length) in 2005: ' Primula Pestis '. This album created a cult following due to it's massive & extreme approach to the genre (quite colossal for the tiny Belgium). TPOG created an utterly heavy & deep sound, influenced by all the good stuff . In 2006 the band split up as a result of the arrestation of one of the band members. 'A Very Old Ghost Behind The Farm really mix things up from Electric Wizard drug-fueled stoner-doom to Khanate styled drone-noise to moments of pure nola-sludge metal. The band is a little off-the-wall as some very doomy moments are given a kind of folkie twist that almost like country music gone sludge. It is creepy but at the same time, slighty twisted and quirky. The songs have the typical occult edge you expect from so many doom bands these days but they are constantly throwing you a curve-ball and that is where some of the more traditional doom fans might find this too much to handle. Put it this way, if you think moshing and doom shouldn't go together, you might want to stay clear of this album. There is a lot of mid-tempo chugging which is not that unusual for a doom act to throw into the mix but they also blend into up-tempo, in-your-face aggressive parts that are like Eyehategod on speed. Yes, it pushes the doom envelope a little bit too much in parts but I dig the alb...

'Awooga started in late 2008 jamming away in a cold little decrepit practice room in Sheffield city centre across from a 86 year old Master Steel Forger who once made knives for Bill Clinton and Elvis Presley.
