Thorr-Axe - Wall Of Spears (2011) Exclusive Review
I'm honoured to present you guys another exclusive review here at Stonerobixxx. This once comes from Indiana's 'Thorr-Axe', a rising young band with a huge sound. I did a quick review on their previous demo EP on here, which was quite an amazing effort for such a fresh & highly talented band in the genre.
'Wall Of Spears' is Thorr-axe's debut full-length, to be released at the end of this week (May 21th), when I opened this package I was instantly amazed by the incredible artwork (props to Ralph Walters for that). 'The Battle of Stamford Bridge', an epic interpretation. And that is exactly what to expect from this album. Angry Norsemen & Saxons! A fitting theme for a stoner/ doom epic, works like a charm (also see Ocean Chief, The Sword,..). But enough about the conceptual parts; 'Wall Of Spears' shreds through flesh & bone, and is a stong evolution from the band's previous work.
This is one for all the lovers of heavy riffs, barbarian grooves, agressive vocals & pounding drums. There are 9 songs on this one, including the 4 demo tracks. All in a renewed, heavier production. I absolutely love the raw sound, great to hear the old tracks like they should be. A rock solid debut by one of the youngest stoner/doom/ riff metal bands out there who doesn't take itself too seriously (again, check out their music video). Get your hands on this one, highly recommended!
Special thanks to Tucker & Thorr-Axe!
